Greenberg, Hayyim
(1889-1953)
   American Zionist leader, essayist and editor. He was born in Todoristi in Russia. He edited the Russian Jewish weekly The Dawn, before moving in 1921 to Berlin, where he edited Haolam, the official weekly of the World Zionist Organization. He settled in the US by 1924, when he became editor of the Yiddish Zionist publication Tarn Folk. In 1934 he was appointed editor of the labour Zionist monthly The Jewish Frontier. During World War II he served as head of the American Zionist Emergency Council and after the war he was director of the Department of Education and Culture of the Jewish Agency in America. He published studies espousing Zionism.
